A Google account email alias is an additional email address that delivers mail into the same Google account inbox. Rather than a separate account, the alias shares the mailbox, storage and login, so mail sent to the alias lands with the main address.
Aliases help organize mail, keep testing addresses separate, or present a different-facing address without managing multiple accounts. On Gmail you can also add custom 'send mail as' addresses and set a primary alias for your account.
Important: an alias is not a separate inbox. Replies still come from your main identity unless configured, and you cannot log in using only an alias. For email marketers this is useful for segmented testing or branding, not for separate mailbox management.
