Definition
An outreach sequence is a structured series of emails sent to a prospect who has not yet engaged with your brand. Unlike a nurture sequence (which assumes existing interest), an outreach sequence builds awareness and interest from scratch.
Typical Structure
- Email 1 (Day 1): Introduction — who you are, why you are reaching out, value proposition
- Email 2 (Day 4): Follow-up — additional value, case study, or relevant insight
- Email 3 (Day 8): Social proof — mention similar companies or people who benefited
- Email 4 (Day 14): Breakup — final attempt with a clear ask and exit option
Best Practices
Keep each email focused on a single objective. Increase the specificity of your value proposition with each touch. Always include an unsubscribe option. Track reply rate as your primary success metric — not open rate. A 5-10% reply rate is strong for cold outreach.
